You mean just like a team with no state title took out EC?

so to you and all the no-ring haters. lol..
try to catch up, we have 4 state championships Rings.....WE ARE E.C . The Basketball Mecca!the most in the Region......

but i pray bowman wins then we will be tied with Gary and thats ok with me...

Yes, he was talking to me. Sorry I haven't been on this board - I've been too depressed.

He's mad because a few days ago I made a sarcastic remark about EC losing to Munster, which has no state titles in school history. My only point in doing that is it doesn't really matter whether or not your school has state titles in its history. The magic thing about high school basketball is rosters change from year to year. Certainly tradition plays a part in how a program performs, but on any given year one school that might not have the illustrious history that the city of East Chicago has can put together a solid team and make a run for the state title. In other words, the fact that EC had two schools go undefeated and win state titles in 1970-71 has absolutely no bearing on the kids who play today.
Was Valpo over-rated? Maybe. I think they peaked in the Lake Central game. Some things must have happened since then that affected their performances in the Michigan City game and in the sectional (not blaming anything on the double-OT loss at Merrillville other than missed free throws and poor rebounding).
A good point was made that Merrilville has been UNDER-rated all year. Merrillville is a solid team, and I told people six weeks ago that it wouldn't surprise me if Valpo lost to Merrillville in the sectional. It was a great game by both teams. I don't think the officials screwed either team - couple odd calls each way where maybe one team got a break, but it evened out. Jeremiah Jones is a heck of a player who was unstoppable in the fourth quarter. Valpo had about 5 shots, including a couple layups, go down and out of the rim and had very few turnovers against a very good, quick team.
As a DAC fan, and a rare Valpo person who likes and respects Jim East, I hope the Pirates can keep moving on.
