I wanted to be the first to discuss on here what a great honor it was for the region to produce a girl a that was able to walk onto the Arizona State team. I think it speaks volumes for what type of talent we have around here, that a girl could come from a team with a mediocre record and still be talented enough to earn a spot with the Sun devils. I hope that this gives ALL players in NW Indiana a glimmer of hope that they can make it too. In my opinion, as a long time softball observer, this was the biggest deal I've seen in a long time and not enough has been discussed.

She did all she did in high school, while taking care of her sibling(s) while her mom was serving our country, I think.

I don't personally know her, but I know people who do and they always spoke highly of her and her abilities. I only saw her play against Whiting and she always did well against them.

I'm with you, hopefully she will have encouraged others to take a shot at their dreams of playing some MAJOR softball!

Great Kid , she is really a diamond in the rough. She did not really get exposed to the game until high school when she got exposed to playing travel ball. Really showed Her what the game was about. All kinds of atheletic ability and SPEED, with some time to get used to the level play should be able to really contribute.

Mentioned this in another softball topic but worth repeating here:

According to the ASU softball website, Kayla Ketchum pinch ran and scored a run in her collegiate debut this week for #5 Arizona State. Her Sun-Devil team faces Texas A&M (Mel Dumezich on the Aggie roster) tonight, 2/13/10, in Tempe Ariz. in the Kajikawa Classic.

I don't know who's pitching.......
